The Man Of Lists – Profiles 6 – Ian Thistlethwaite
Ian Thistlethwaite is the 6th artist to have collaborated with Pulco on the forthcoming album ‘The Man Of Lists’ which is due to be released on June 18th. We are bonded by fate and coincidence as I recently discovered that Ian studied Music here in Bangor some years ago. We walk the same streets in parallel dimensions !!!

Ian grew up in a musical household, playing in folk-clubs, ceili bands, and orchestras as a child, and went on to study music for his degree in Bangor, North Wales (as opposed to Bangor, Northern Ireland, or Bangor, Maine). While at the end off his studies, he met and fell in love with his wife, and has since resided in Ireland. An accomplished musician, music teacher, husband, and father, Ian writes, records, produces , and engineers recording in between teaching, parenting, and husbanding duties. His music has brought forth comparisons with Belle & Sebastian, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Jim O’Rourke, The Beta Band, Frank Turner, Richard Thompson, Jonathan Coulton, and They Might Be Giants.
These comparisons are mere tags though as Ian’s tunes have a unique flavour and sense of place that make his sound different.
His music falls into three main category areas:
Ian’s folky stuff
Ian’s electronic stuff
Ian’s guitar-based stuff
Throughout, Ian always plays and sings with a unique and charming musical voice, and the categories and genres merge together.
Take some time to stop by Ian’s websites and listen to his music – He is ace !!!
- Pulco music is home-recorded lo-fi experimentalism - observational, poignant and at times laugh out loud funny. It includes poetry, found sound, ambient noise as well as songs deftly performed with little more than voice and guitar.
